The Carriage House Inn of Searsport is no longer open for business, however, it is still rumored to be one of Maine's haunted destinations. The Victorian style mansion dates back to the 1870s and was a retreat for many people, including famous painter Waldo Pierce.

Some of those that have stayed the night at the inn have reported paranormal activity. Expert investigators have also stated there are at least two ghosts haunting the inn. One couple visiting stated they experienced the sensation of someone sitting on the bed with them which woke them. The wife of that same couple stated she saw a woman with long hair dressed in old fashioned garb combing her hair in their room. Other guests have reported things such as knocking, music, and have even smelled cigar smoke when no one was smoking.
