Route 26 Hitchhiker

Rumor has it that Route 26 in Poland, Maine is haunted by a ghostly young hitchhiker. The hitchhiker, a woman, who was killed in the 1930s in a fatal accident, has been spotted wearing a fancy dress.

Some stories say the woman was a bride who was murdered before her wedding, while other tales tell she was a teenager on her way to prom. Witnesses have reported seeing her apparition politely asking people for a ride while they're driving down the road. But, then she disappears from the vehicle before reaching her destination.
