Fort Knox
Prospect, ME 04981
Now known as Fort Knox State Park or the Fort Knox State Historic Site, this fort is located on the western bank of the Penobscot River in Prospect. It dates back to 1844 and sits on 124 acres, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. Due to its history, it's no surprise that the area is believed to be one of Maine's most haunted destinations. The site has been featured on an episode of TV's "Ghost Hunters" and has had haunting reports that include apparitions, electronic voice phenomena and people who have claimed to be physically touched by something unseen.
